Your First Book is an Initiation….

Becoming an author brought up far more fear, self-doubt, and vulnerability than I ever expected.

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of becoming an author. I wrote poetry, short stories, songs, even little books.

In 2018, I began sharing my writing on Instagram, and the audience grew into millions of readers.

Publishers began reaching out — a few from the Big 5 (Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Hachette, and Simon & Schuster).

Then I got an email from Eva, an Editor at Chronicle Books, and something in me felt pulled toward her.

We got on a call that same day and connected instantly. It felt like one of those rare meetings that changes the direction of your life.

Even though I had opportunities with the biggest publishers in the world, I knew Eva was the person I wanted to walk through this process with.

Because even though I'd been writing since I was 4 years old… I didn't fully believe I was a writer yet.

So I said yes to Eva, found my agent at Writers House, and signed my first six-figure book deal. And do you know what my first thought was?

It wasn't excitement. It was dread. "Oh sh*t. I've tricked them into thinking I'm a writer."

Writing Becoming the One stretched me emotionally in ways I never expected. There were moments I wanted to quit, moments I considered giving the advance back entirely. The only reason I didn't was that people were counting on me.

What I learned is that writing a book isn't just a technical process... it's a deeply emotional and spiritual one.

There's an existential quality to it. A book lives beyond you. That's kind of a big deal.
